Inspired By the Destination
When Tauck launched their river cruises in the 1990s, they realized that no “ordinary” river cruise experience would do: Tauck wanted guests to travel Europe’s rivers in the same beyond-the-ordinary Tauck style experienced on land trips. So Tauck crafted riverboats that were ahead of the time, custom-designed to match not only the river, but the experience onshore.
Creating the Tauck Destination Fleet
Tauck extensively searched to find the right ship-building partner, and found that partner in Scylla—a family-run company, like Tauck, that shares a commitment to providing a superb guest experience. Scylla collaborates with Tauck in the custom-design, construction, maintenance, and nautical operations of the Destination Fleet.
Three Ship Sizes for Cruising Flexibility
Working with a talented group of engineers, designers, and craftsmen, Tauck designed riverboats with the utmost cruising flexibility. In 2018, Tauck completed a redesign of their 361 ft./110 m. ships to provide more space per guest with no more than 98 guests onboard, complementing the 443 ft./135 m. riverboats, which carry no more than 130 guests. In 2020, Tauck will launch a new 263 ft./ 80 m. 84-guest riverboat built especially for cruising Portugal’s Douro River and its wine country.
